UNDP Support For Science And Technology

The mandate of the UNDP allows it to provide the kind of systematic and sustained assistance in science and technology development to accelerate social economic development in Nigeria. Such assistance should however be related to the national development plans and priorities and must be of benefit to the populations. Through the assistance provided by UNDP, increased self-reliance could be achieved in the managerial, technical, administrative, research and commercialization capabilities required to translate viable ideas into marketable technological processes and systems. Obviously, we would need to encourage strong links with the private sector and the business community using Technology Business Incubators and Beehives and other facilities as possible mechanisms for promoting rapid commercialization.

UNDP believes in the revival of the Science and Technology sector. The time has come for this group and body of scientific and technological knowledge that has been in a state of susended animation for so long to rise to the challendges of development in Nigeria. We believe that beyond financial community and institutions to work towards human advancement. UNDP stands ready to enter into partnership with all the competent parties to advance the process.
